TEXAS LARYNGECTOMEE ASSOC. - MARCH
17, 18, 2000
Here, at last, are the pictures
from the TLA meeting. We hope everyone who attended will find these pictures a pleasant
reminder of the 2000 Texas meeting, excellent as usual, with good information, good
friendships renewed, good fun, good food - even good weather, expecially nice for those of
us who came from up north. Sorry that the lighting and location did not always let
us get shots as large or clear as we'd like. We tried, of course, to get as many
pictures as we could of as many people as we could. There were a lot of group and
general overview shots in which we couldn't name everybody, so we didn't name anybody -
and no doubt some people were missed completely in the pictures. If you don't find
yourself, please accept our apology. Come again next year and say to us, "I
want to be in the picture this time!"
The first pictures are the first things people saw - the meeting lobby with Betty checking people in - the nice set up that the Red Lion always does for breaks - and some of the various vendors.

Everyone was delighted to see that Betty Cantrell was back this year after
all!!

Sally North at the break table - table decorated in green for St. Pat's Day,
but those cans of Coke are still red!
Sally was enjoying her last few days of "freedom"
before taking on the responsibilities of being the Prez.

Lenny Komar concentrating on a Servox repair.

Patsy Haskell at her Alex Speech Aids table.

New this year - a table from ATOS, handling the ProVox and StomVent

Dorothy Lennox (that's me) in green in honor of the day.

Richard Crum ready to help with information about In-Health's prostheses.
The following pictures are from the Friday buffet lunch, featuring South
of the Border foods
and bright decor. A wonderful job by the Red Lion convention
and food service department, as always.

FRIDAY NIGHT BANQUET

Rev. Tom Holcomb, Pres., gave lovely cross-stitched
"Rose" awards to several of the women
who'd been especially helpful to him during his presidency.

And then!! We found out that Jessie Hart wasn't due only for the Reverend's
thanks - it was also her birthday. The lovely flowers in front of the podium were
not just decoration - they were for her -
and a big shamrock and white balloon bouquet was brought in, too, in honor of
Jessie's original March 17th arrival!

There were awards for the men, too - but unfortunately, our camera was giving a
problem at the time and we missed most of them.

And, of course, great appreciation for Betty Cantrell and Donna Hargrove of the ACS
and all the work they do
to make sure that the TLA meeting is always an outstanding event and great success.
The guest "speaker" for the evening - Kathleen Brown, a music therapist and
survior of breast cancer who gave a poignant and humorous glimpse of the problems, hopes
and fears and bittersweet experinces of anyone fighting cancer of any kind - through songs
from a musical that she and a colleague are writing about it. She gave a wonderful
performance - funny and inspiring
and leaving nary a dry eye in the house!

Donna Hargrove and Vanessa Hart with their usual big Texas welcoming smiles
for us visitors from the north.

Everyone always enjoys seeing little Dakota
Saturday brought many more events and a few more hours to drop in
tickets
to win your favorites items at the drawing

Neil Chen from Lauder Enterprises, filling out dozens of tickets. He's always a
big winner
- and generous - winning prizes for other people, not himself.

Betty gathering up door prizes.

The Voice Institute had an outstanding turnout of SLP
students.

Artificial larynx practice time is a valuable part of the Voice Institute - and a lot
of fun, as well.

Saturday afternnoon. Wrapping it up for another year.
Candy Moltz and Donna Hargrove have been collecting evaluations and final paperwork.
Now Dr. "Stu" Gilmore signs out and Rev. Tom smiles in memory of a
wonderful year and a job beautifully done
- and also, no doubt, in pleasure in turning it all over to Sally North for the year
to come!
