MICROPHONES AND MICROPHONE SUPPORTS
The regular handheld mic for each amplifier is often the simplest & least expensive and produces good to best quality sound and volume. Those who cannot hold a mic or who prefer or needr both hands free can get good results by choosing among various mics and mic supports.
. SHAKY HANDS?? POOR GRIP?? You may do well with a handheld mic braced by 2 fingers or the palm or the heel of the hand on your chin. Or try a Hands Free mic.
New
Throat Mic (electret) - Cat. #16033 - Has a flexible
neckband with tensioning spring to hold the microphone in place. The voice will not be as
clear as with a mic at the lipline. Also, this mic, like any throat mic will amplify body
noises, especially when turning the head rapidly or when swallowing liquid or food, so it
is not ideal for social situations and it would not usually be the first choice for
someone who can use another type of mic -though it can do a reasonable job of amplifying
artifical larynx speech, especially intra-oral - and it may be useful for professionals
who want to listen to and evaluate swallowing sounds. Weighs 1 oz. Cord 36 in. long.
DynaMIC (electret) Pencil Mic - Cat. #16043 - Weighs 2.25 oz. 4.75" long, 1/2" in
diameter, cord 48" long.
Super-Lite
Headband Mic (electret) Cat. # 16053
Excellent Anti-Feedback Characterics This medium-light tan flesh-tone mic weighs only ½ oz.
and has supports that hook around both ears to keep the microphone very steady just where
it needs to be - at the corner of the mouth very close to the lips for maximum output.
Compared to "stage mics" that are similar in appearance, the Super-Lite Headband
Mic is much less expensive but should provide much better performance for people with weak
voices. "Stage mics" are omni-directional - made to pick up surrounding sound as
well as the users voice, but the S-L Headband Mic is a noise-cancelling microphone
which does an excellent job of avoiding feedback and picking up the users voice but
not the sounds from others talking, TV sets, etc.
Also the Super-Lite Headband Mic has a narrower frequency response when compared to other
similar looking microphones so it is not as likely to pick up a lot of hissy air noises
when used by someone with a whisper or whispy voice.
The mic boom is very thin and easily adjustable in length to bring the microphone to the
proper position. It can be adjusted to a comfortable fit for long periods of time. The
right-angled 1/8" monaural plug is less vulnerable to damage than a plug that stands
straight up. The 42" cord is thin and light weight and can easily be tucked into or
under clothing, but it is easier to damage the cord if it is caught in doors or drawers or
handled too roughly than it is with a heavier cord, so we would say that the mic cord must
be handled with a little greater care than our other mics cords and will not take
much abuse.
This wonderfully light weight mic can be adjusted for comfortable fit for long periods of
time, but it requires a little more fitting and adjusting than our Hi-Gain 3-Way Headband
Mic and other mics and is most suitable for use by one person rather than for constant
readjusting to pass from one user to another. And it is not easily adjustable to very
large or very small heads.
All in all, the Super-Lite Headband Mic will not provide quite the level of amplification
that the Hi-Gain 3-Way Headband Mic does and will not be as easily and quickly adjustable,
it will do a great job for many people - especially those who want to wear an amplifier at
chest level or whose positioning difficulties mean that it is difficult to separate the
microphone very far from the speaker.

Earhook mic (electret) Cat. # 16005
This is a "stage mic" that is very light weight and is a light flesh color. It
is omni-directional (made to pick up sound from all around) rather than uni-directional
(made to pick up sound from one spot).Uni-directional is usually a better choice for
people with weak voices using personal amplifiers that are worn on the person. However,
the Earhook Mic is more satisfactory and much less expensive than other microphones of
this type that we have tried and may be worth it to people who really do not want to wear
one of the black or dark grey microphones. Note that the windscreen is really needed for
the best voice and the windscreen comes off a little too easily. You would need to get a
very fine rubber band or tie a piece of thread around it.
The Earhook mic is shaped to wear over the left ear. If the right ear is preferable for you, it can be gently and carefully bent to go over the right ear instead. However, you cannot bend it around often or repeatedly as you can with the microphone stems on our Hi-Gain Three-Way Headband Mic or the DynaMic Headset Mic.
For best results with a personal amplifier, any mic
